The GTX 780 is of course not cheap, but that's the price you'll have to pay for the high-end. With just a $10 price premium over the reference design bringing the total to $660, pricing of the MSI GTX 780 GAMING is extremely reasonable. That said, I'd personally pick lower noise over a 20 MHz higher overclock any day. While luck of the draw might have played a role with our overclock, it could also be indicative of a GTX 780 Lightning for overclockers in the near future. Overclocking worked well, but ended up a bit lower than on other GTX 780 cards we previously reviewed. Benchmark Results: The Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 Ti GHz Edition card averaged 22.5 FPS with these settings and that was enough to make it 10 faster than the GTX 780 Ti cards from MSI and EVGA. It seems as though MSI really focused on low noise with their GAMING Series, which users will certainly love. It is much quieter than any other GTX 780 we tested so far. 4A Games, which also developed Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, could do with improving loading times too. Starting with the single GTX 780, which provides 4.9FPS minimum, and an average. When gaming, fan speed will increase to keep the card cool, but the card is still really quiet. This only happened occasionally, but it is still a frustrating experience, nonetheless. Metro: Last Light had some incredible scaling at 4K, a great way to show off your GeForce GTX 780 system. The card is also almost inaudible in idle, which is great if you work a lot and game rarely.
It runs cool, looks nice, and is very quiet.

MSI also made sure that the card does not crack the 80☌ barrier during gaming, because NVIDIA's Boost 2.0 algorithm will throttle the card some more beyond that point, resulting in reduced performance. Based on specified MSRPs the GTX 780 Ti SLI (699 x 2) is a much more expensive option than the AMD R9 290Xs (549 x 2) but with recent (mining induced) inflationary pricing on AMD R9 290X. This leaves the card just 3% behind the much more expensive GTX Titan, a difference too small to notice during typical gaming. It comes overclocked out of the box, giving it a 4% performance advantage over the NVIDIA reference board.

If you want a cheap professional rendering card the GTX Titans are a good bet, but for PC gamers they simply don't add up.MSI's GeForce GTX 780 GAMING is a great custom-designed GTX 780. When compared to the GTX 780 Ti, the delta is even bigger, reaching up to 40 in some titles, and at 4K it is over 50 in Metro: Last Light. The ultimate gaming GPU was already out there in the GTX 780 Ti and the GTX Titan Black doesn't add anything significant to the mix.
Having an updated version with the same premium price tag, but little change in specs compared with the top 7-series GeForce card, seems entirely pointless. At 144hz it is calibrated for the 4ms response time and has very low input lag. The 165Hz on the PG279Q is a bit of a compromise anyway. At the time it offered performance you could previously only get near with dual-GPU cards. Can a GTX 7p Yes, G-sync up to 144Hz is supported on the 780.
And that has precisely zero bearing on any game engine you can throw at it. Last month 4A Games released updated versions of the two earlier games in the Metro series, Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux. The games have both been remastered using the latest. And I'm not just talking about the likes of EVGA's epic K|NGP|N Edition card either, even PNY's ever-so-slightly overclocked card is generally out in front of the far more expensive card.īut they don't have double precision maths, though. You'd hope that the double-size frame buffer would offer some extra gaming clout at 4K, but it still lags behind an overclocked 3GB GTX 780 Ti.
